RUAF is a global resource centre initiated by the international
Support Group on Urban Agriculture and is funded by: DGIS (The
Netherlands) and IDRC (Canada). At a time of increasing
urbanisation, growing urban poverty and food insecurity, and a
subsequent deterioration of the quality of the urban
environment, it has become urgent to adequately inform national and local policy makers and other local stakeholders on the potentials and pitfalls of urban agriculture.
The main aim of RUAF is to facilitate the integration of urban agriculture in the policies and programmes of national and local governments, technical departments, research centres and NGOs and to facilitate the formulation of projects on urban agriculture with active involvement of all local stakeholders.
The website which includes information sources on urban and
peri-urban food production by and for the urban poor and
related subjects like reuse of urban wastes and wastewater in
urban agriculture, urban food security, and improving nutrition
for HIV-Aids affected families.
