As much as one-fifth of Japanese business has adopted open source operating system, according to a report by the Japanese Government.
The White Paper released by Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) reveals that almost 21 per cent of the Japanese companies are running open-source OS including Linux, FreeBSD and OpenBSD systems, while another 22 per cent have plans to deploy the open-source operating system.
On the other hand, 33 percent of US companies have adopted open-source operating systems in at least some of their servers. MICs survey shows that 66 per cent companies opted for open-source operating systems because of low initial costs, and 47.8 percent for low operating costs.
