Finally, India decides to open access to defence maps to the public
In the new draft National Map Policy approved by the Union Cabinet today, Indian government will provide access to defence maps to the public, helping institutions in better planning using spatial data.
The National Map Policy identifies two series of maps - defence series maps (DSMs), meant for the exclusive use of the defence forces and authorised government departments and open series maps (OSMs), available to the public and private agencies.
Maps will be made available through the Surveyor General of Indias office with a resolution upto 5 cm with the help of aerial survey and satellite imagery.
